WATERCOLORAMMA SLAMMER WORKSHOP

The great Watercoloramma Slammer was a great success, with nine talented, curious watercolor painters showing up for two days of intensive color instruction in watercolor. They all did some great work, and if you don’t believe we had a great time, just go the the photo page and take a look.

A big thank you to Karen Carasik, who marketed, provided space in Comma Gallery Studios, and participated in the workshop herself (as time allowed), as well as my great friends at the CFWS who allowed me to advertise in the newsletter and set up an exhibit at our annual Holiday Luncheon meeting.

TENNESSEE WATERCOLOR SOCIETY

On October 13, 14, and 15, I was the guest of the Tennessee Watercolor Society. Interestingly, the state of Tennessee is so wide that TnWS has to alternate workshop locations between east, west and in between. Chattanooga was the eastern spot and, in case you’ve never been there, or been a long time gone, you should see it. Excellent local art museum, very architecturally hip downtown and terrific meals at stylish local restaurants - what a place to spend a week!

Then, to top it all off, three days of great work by an entirely terrific group of artists. And all of this in a beautiful old building (under restoration) on Signal Mountain, a lovely area high above Chattanooga.

Special thanks to:
Pam Pate, the TnWS Program Chair, Jennifer and Allison, our beautiful models, to Leslie Dulin, the representative for the local arts group who co-sponsored the workshop and to William Batson, Jr., who provided many of these fine pictures (that's him to your left!). And to all of the workshoppers who worked their hearts out, no matter how appalling the assignment. VERY EXPRESSIVE STUFF, GUYS! I’m really proud of you, every one!

This group was smokin’! Check out their efforts on the linked page

FLORIDA WATERCOLOR SOCIETY'S 35th ANNUAL SHOW

Betsy Dillard Stroud, this year’s juror for the Florida Watercolor Society's 35th Annual Show awarded the Publix and M. Graham Paints prize ($900) to my painting, "Before the Bath". Over 700 entries were received this year. The FWS is the largest state watercolor organization in the US, and certainly has a major annual show.

It is always an honor to be included in this group of excellent painters. Betsy Dillard Stroud is a delightful, bouyant woman, full of ideas and enthusiasm for art and artists. It was a great pleasure to meet and talk with her, and hear her critique of this painting!

GEORGIA WATERCOLOR SOCIETY

Ken’s painting, “As Evening Falls” won the Past President’s Award ($200) in the Georgia Watercolor Society’s 2007 National show. The juror was Skip Lawrence.

The Georgia Watercolor Society's shows are consistently high in quality, and they are a gracious and generous group. Skip Lawrence is one of my favorite artists and a great teacher, from whom I've taken several workshops. You should too if you want to learn about how to make art instead of just how to paint. I am indeed flattered and proud to have my painting selected to hang in this show. You can see the show by clicking here:Georgia Watercolor Society.
